How to Organize a Closet
July 18, 2021Many people spend hours looking for how to get stains out of the carpet. Carpets make great flooring, but they can also be a breeding ground for dirt and germs. If they are not cleaned regularly, they can also attract and store dust and other debris that can become a health hazard over time. Fortunately, there are many simple and inexpensive ways to clean your carpet, and many of these tricks can be done right at home. Here are some tricks you can try to get those stains out of the carpet.
Baking soda and hydrogen peroxide are both very effective household cleaners and are staples in most households. Common household items such as baking soda, white vinegar, and hydrogen peroxide are natural and safe treatments that work very well on carpet stains. For tougher stains, you will probably need carpet stain remover products that work fast, without permanently damaging your carpet, to get the job done.
Before using any of these household cleaners, blot the area with a clean cloth. You can either blot the area with the side of a paper towel or a wet sponge. Be sure that you are wearing a clean cloth and not one that has residue from any previous stains it may have taken on. It is always better to use a clean cloth than a bleached, whitened stain remover. White vinegar is another option that is fairly effective at getting out most types of stains, provided you do not leave it on too long or allow it to stand on the stained material.
After applying any of the above ingredients, dab or sponge the area. Do not wipe it with a single wet cloth. This will only make the job take longer. Instead, slowly dab at the area in small circles. Continue on until all of the remaining moisture has been removed. Then you will want to apply some more of the above ingredients, but not as much as you applied before.
For heavily stained areas, such as those that have been burned, a commercial carpet cleaner that contains a solution of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda is often a good choice. The baking soda helps to break down the carbon dioxide in the red wine, which then works to absorb the stain. Just be sure not to use regular carpet cleaner if you drink red wine, since this will react with the ingredients and cause even more damage.
If the carpeting has been heavily soiled and is very dark, then you may have to resort to harsher methods to remove the stains. You could try using a solution of ammonia and water or using a commercial carpet cleaner that contains bleach. These are both good for removing light to moderate stains from light-colored carpeting, but be sure to use these only as a last resort. If you find these methods to be too harsh or you have tried them before and nothing has worked, then you may need to consult a professional carpet cleaner who can recommend something stronger still. Never use any product containing ammonia when you are trying to remove stains from the carpet, as this can permanently damage the fabric.
